454 Gorrell Street is more than just a home; it is a statement about preserving Black legacy, fighting displacement, and ensuring our communities thrive.
This home sits in the same neighborhood where William Blackstone Windsor (1879-1932), a prominent Black educator and activist, challenged Greensboro’s racial segregation laws. In 1914, Windsor purchased a home on Gorrell Street, defying the city’s unwritten “color line.” When white residents objected, the city passed a segregation ordinance forcing him to sell his home.
