Black Wall Street (BWS) was formally established in June 2023 to address the historic disinvestment and systemic inequalities that have disproportionately impacted BIPOC communities in Southeast Greensboro, NC. However, our roots in community development date back to the early 2000s, when we began investing in revitalizing underserved neighborhoods and tackling the long-standing effects of redlining and economic neglect.

As residents of this community, we understand the challenges firsthand. Unlike developers who work in areas they don’t live in, we are committed to creating change from within—because this is our home too.

Since the early 2000s, BWS invested over $10 million of personal funds into addressing the stark disparities between Southeast Greensboro and more affluent areas like Fisher Park and Irving Park. While those neighborhoods have consistently benefited from public and private investments, Southeast Greensboro has struggled to overcome the legacies of systemic racism and disinvestment. BWS is reversing these trends and ensuring every resident has access to the resources and opportunities they deserve.

We focus on a range of initiatives, including affordable housing, economic development, workforce training, and public infrastructure improvements. Our work is guided by a Community Redevelopment Plan centered on sustainability, job creation, and public-private partnerships.

At Black Wall Street Southeast Greensboro, we remain steadfast in our mission to build a future where equity and opportunity are at the forefront of every community’s development—because we believe change starts at home.

At Black Wall Street Southeast Greensboro (BWS), our mission is to empower young Black talent in this community and create pathways to generational wealth. Investing in the potential of young leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals is key to revitalizing neighborhoods, building equity, and fostering sustainable growth.

The boundaries of Black Wall Street (BWS) encompass Southeast Greensboro, including key areas such as Gorrell St, Martin St, MLK Jr Dr, Watson St, Bragg St, Julian St, and Pearson Street. These neighborhoods form the heart of our revitalization efforts to create equity and opportunity for all.
